TopTenREVIEWS - Gold Award - Awarded for excellence in design, usability and feature set

Let's be honest, most computers come with laughable built-in speakers that sound tinny and weak. They are usually quarter-sized speakers that deliver low-quality sound. You can instantly upgrade your sound by purchasing nearly any set of computer speakers, but you should get a quality set that vastly improves your computer audio. If you want to inject your system with high-octane audio that fills the room with rich highs and impressive lows, you'll want to get the right speakers. The best speaker set we reviewed is the Logitech Z600. This set of computer speakers will give you top-notch sound quality delightfully packaged in a sleek and futuristic design. The Logitech Z600 impressed us more than enough to earn our Top Ten Reviews Gold Award.

We tested the laptop speakers in our lineup with a variety of different songs to expose the true abilities of each unit. Sound quality is, after all, the most important aspect of any speaker set. Specs like frequency response and sensitivity are important gauges of a speaker's performance, but a sound test is the best indicator. To test the low end we used bass-heavy songs such as Aesop Rock’s “Tetra,” Blackalicious’ “It’s Going Down” and Radiohead’s “Idioteque.” For the mid and high notes we used songs such as The Roots' “Seed 2.0,” Radiohead’s “Weird Fishes” and Led Zeppelin’s “Dazed and Confused.” We weren’t afraid to push these speakers a little bit by cranking up Rage Against The Machine and some dubstep to see how much volume these speakers could handle.

Even though these speakers are relatively small, we were surprised by how loud they can get. These workhorses can push a decent amount of volume before you start hearing any distortion. Each speaker has three drivers in it that help push enough sound to fill up a room.

The low-end response was good in the Logitech Z600. With most speakers that don’t include a subwoofer, you can't expect the bass to thump too hard. But even without a subwoofer, we were happy with the bass response.

The mids and highs sounded crystal clear and crisp. With some computer speakers we reviewed, the mids and highs can sound too bright, almost tinny. The Logitech Z600 has a nice warm sound with an equal mix of all frequencies.

Beyond the well-rounded sound that these speakers produce, the Z600 can connect to your computer in multiple ways. You can choose to go wirelessly and connect to your speakers via Bluetooth. This is a fantastic way to avoid having cables all over your desk. Just don't move your laptop too far from your speakers. Logitech claims you can stay connected around 30 feet away but we found that after about 25 feet you start to lose connection.

The Logitech Z600 allows you to connect up to three devices at once via Bluetooth. Of course, you can’t play three different songs at the same time, but this is a convenient feature since it allows you to switch between devices without any hassle. All you have to do is hit pause on whatever device is playing and press play on another device.

If your laptop or desktop does not support the Bluetooth connection, you can connect your Logitech Z600 speakers via USB or you can run the 3.5 mm cable from the headphone jack on your computer to the speakers. Connecting your laptop speakers with USB or via 3.5 mm cable is a safe way to go if you want to ensure your speakers work properly.

Logitech smartly designed this set of speakers with lay-flat cables. That means you won't have to deal with the hassle of twisted cables.

These computer speakers are a tad bit taller than most of the speakers we reviewed, but with the Bluetooth connection and the lightweight of the speakers the Logitech Z600 can be fairly mobile.

Not only are the Logitech Z600s the best PC speakers we reviewed, they are also the best looking. These towering speakers really are a work of art. The white and gray color scheme is soft on the eyes and really fits well in any room in the house.

At first glance, you may wonder where the volume knob is on this unit. To adjust the volume you simply glide your fingers around the edge of the right speaker. To adjust the volume up, glide your finger across the top in a clockwise motion, counterclockwise to turn the volume down.
